In the Spotlight: Anton Bruehl Photographs 1902–1950s.

An early adopter of color photography for magazine publication in the mid-20th century, Australian-born New York commercial and fashion photographer Anton Bruehl created powerful, color-saturated images that looked almost like paintings for advertisers, portraits, and publicity photos for Broadway and ballet. Yet he also was a master of black and white imagery, and in the 1930s published an exquisite series of Mexican photos in the book Mexico. More than 100 of his distinctive prints are reproduced here and put in the context of his career and the field of photography.
